Medicine after dietetics

Hi,
I'm about to start dietetics I'm 40.
I would love to study medicine but dietetics being something I always been tremendously interested in is my first choice.
My question is, first of all is 40 yo not too late for such plans?
Dietetics doesn't take too long, however I am not sure about employment situation after. Medicine, particularly pathology and infectious diseases is what I would love to do but again I realise it would be much more challenging than dietetics that's how I decided to start cautiously.
Do you guys have any experience with medical students in their mid to late fourties?

What is 'dietics' - presumably you mean dietetics - and that isn't how you spell 'forties'.
