If you're staying in student accommodation with flatmates, don't be afraid to speak to them. Just initiate conversation and you'll soon find stuff you have in common.

After a lecture, maybe ask the people you are sat with if they'd like to go and grab a drink or some food- you're all on the same course, so you will all have something in common which should make it easy to get along with.

Attend Fresher's Events- In September, the student union holds a large number of events everyday for new students to settle in and meet new people, from trips to Chester Zoo and Alton Towers, to movie nights, quizzes and bowling. Most of these events are free and a great way to meet new people.

The best advice I can give is to join a society or two. These are clubs that are led by students for students with similar interest. I have joined the Musical Theatre Society this year and I have met my best friends and five of us are getting a shared house in September. There are societies for everything from sports like Netball, Football and Basketball to fandom societies like the Doctor Who Society or the Harry Potter Society. Here are a list of all our clubs and societies: https://www.jmsu.co.uk/groups
