I like my flatmate who has a partner

My flatmate just told me of having a partner. We are both moving out in fewer than three weeks as the lease has been ended by the house owner. I can't express anything for fear of burning the bridges - be the fear rational or irrational. I feel devastated when I am already going through an unprecedented hard time and financially relying on my parents entirely to pay rent. I have somehow lost the sense of purpose of life and "I don't know what to do...coz I'll never be with you [her] (James Blunt, 2005)".

Summer beckons. Try to get a job, earning money will be good for your self esteem and hanging out with new people will be distracting. It will give you distance and perspective.

Stay friends and who knows what the future holds.

What do you think about the chance that something could happen between me and her in the future?

When in the future? Is she planning on keeping in touch with you? Are you hoping to do so in case the relationship breaks down?

Nothing has happened so far, so what would change in the next few weeks, especially as she has told you she has a partner? She doesn't reciprocate your feelings, so leave her be and move on.

Wishful thinking.

Don’t intervene in a happy relationship.

I don't have the intention to. What are you assuming about me?

No assumption going by the title of the thread unless there’s a genuine reason to her splitting up with her partner it’s probably best to move on.

If the person ends up picking me over their current partner, it is their choice, not my fault.

Yeah but don’t be influential in any sense especially if they have a partner ultimately it’s down to them and their choice. And yeah if there’s a legitimate chance/reason then yes otherwise move on mate.

Who knows what the future holds. Make the most of the opportunities life has to offer, enjoy yourself and be a good person. The universe has a way of helping you work everything out.

You are young, the world is your oyster. Be brave and try new things and see where life takes you.
