Yes but you’ll need to do a conversion degree to become a solicitor or barrister. It’s no longer a requirement to do a conversion degree under the SQE route, but it is recommended that you have studied law before taking the exam. I believe it is still a requirement to have some sort of degree in law to become a barrister, although I’m not too sure on the route to become one. Studying international relations will be very useful to you if you want to become an international solicitor or barrister (in whichever area of practice you choose).

Hi @student12123

You absolutely can still become a lawyer with a non-law degree. If you want to become a solicitor, technically you will be eligible with an international relations degree to take the SQE exams. However, most people find that this is very difficult without doing a law conversion course or similar to give a strong foundation to sit the exams. If you want to become a barrister, you will have to take a law conversion course after your undergraduate degree which is 1 academic year long. After you have done the conversion, you can then sit the BPC and continue along the route to qualify as a barrister.

I hope this helps and good luck! 🙂
