Postgraduate loan

Hi. So I joined a university to do my postgraduate masters one year course on the 14th may and received payment to which I paid the uni. On the 28th may this year I am transferring to a diferent uni for a different course as the original I didn’t like. The uni are going to put in my change of circumstances for me for the transfer.

The question I want to ask is when my new start date on the 28th the new uni will want paying. Will I receive a new payment and new schedule for this.
Hello,

This is a great question, and what I would recommend is checking out the Student Finance page or giving them a call. Their website is very user-friendly, and their team is really helpful if you have specific questions like this.

It may also be helpful to call the university in question and enquire about a payment plan if you are waiting for your loan to come through. Not all unis offer this, but there is no harm in asking.

I hope this helps.

Hi Oliver,

When you transfer your new university will send us a Change of Circumstances (COC) to let us know. This normally takes around 5 working days for us to process this.

Just to confirm, did you begin your initial course in May of this year, 2024?

Thanks, Graeme

Hi Oliver,

If we don't have the change of circumstances yet from your new university we can't update the application. Do you if they sent this to us and when? Does your application online still show your old details?

Thanks,
Claire

Hi Oliver,

The current expected timescale for the change to be processed is 5 working days from the date received. Then you will be notified about any awarded funding and payments.

Thanks, Angela

Hi thanks for getting back. Yes I know I just wanted to know that once it’s been updated is this something that would happen. As my previous payment went all to the university but now I will have a new start date and university want a payment for that date so would I get my installment from yourselves on my new start date once transfer is updated?

Hi Oliver, if you've transferred to a new university (and not withdrawn) then you'd be scheduled the remainder of your postgraduate loan for the new course (this will also show the new course dates). Any payments would be paid to you once the university confirms registration to us and releases the payments. This can take 1-2 working days to update and 3-5 working days to reach your bank. You'll then be able to make payments directly to the university. Thanks, Jason
