Bristol uni bsc economics term dates?

Im planning on joining Bristol uni starting in 2024, and am wondering when the first term for first year economics students ends. On the website it says the general Christmas holiday is 16th December to 3rd January, but apparently it varies from course to course and also 2 weeks seems to short?! I have dates for going on holiday around the 9th december to 9th January - is this fine???

You will most likely have an exam period for 1-2 weeks after the Christmas holiday. So if the website says 16th to 3rd, then you will probably have exams from the 3rd and it will be study leave at that time.

Usually the course dates will be the same as the general dates, it just depends on whether you also have coursework or exams due before christmas or january.

If you're still unsure best to email the university, and even better if you could email the economics department

Term dates are at https://www.bristol.ac.uk/university/dates/

Winter vacation is 16 December 2024 to 3 January 2025. Bear in mind that this is three weeks, and not two.

Spring term starts on 6th January. As it says on the web page "Your school will inform you during 2024 about activities and attendance requirements in this week".

Teaching block 2 starts on 13th January.

Below the table of dates, there's a section about changes to the structure of the academic year, which points to https://www.bristol.ac.uk/students/updates/academic-year-changes/ That pages says that 6 to 10 January 2025 is "Teaching block 2 preparation week"
The first week back in January will be a preparation week for TB2 and a chance to get involved with a mixture of academic and extra-curricular activities.

From that, I think you should assume that you will need to be present from 6th January onwards, but that teaching block 2 does not start till the 13th January.

There is a note on the term dates page "Please note that the academic dates above relate to the standard teaching, examination and term dates for students at the University. Some undergraduate and postgraduate programmes do not follow standard term dates; we will inform students on these programmes." I think you're safe to assume that Economics would have standard term dates. The sort of programmes with non-standard dates would be things like Medicine, Dentistry, maybe Vet Science; and possibly things like Education courses if they need to fit in with school terms for things like teaching practice.

The term dates page indicates that 9 to 13 December 2024 is the "TB1 Assessment period". This is when exams will be held for units that run in Teaching Block 1. So you really can't be away for that period.
