Physics or Further Maths

I am taking Physics A-level currently and i find it challenging so i am considering switching to Further Math but I start year 13 in September and idk if its too late. My college offer one year A-level programs so that should not be an issue, but i am reluctant because idk which one is more important for a CS degree

They both should be fine for a CS degree. Further maths would be really good considering it's a difficult A Level. It honestly depends on what you're better at as if you get like a B in physics but A in Further Maths, Further maths would be the better option.

Yh but I’m also leaning towards further maths because I’ll be doing math in uni. But idk which one is more difficult to get an A in

further maths will defo be more useful for a CS degree, if you have to keep one for a CS degree drop physics

The content of further maths is definitely easier and can be done in a year, but the questions tend to be harder than those asked in physics. It really comes down to how strong your maths is. At the end of the day FM is probably better for CS.

That’s also my perspective on the whole thing. Reading for an exam just to either be marked wrong for not explaining it the way they wanted or staring at a question because you have no idea what’s going on. I’m currently taking physics and further maths because my school gave me till summer to decide, but I’m most likely going to stick with further maths

I definitely prefer further maths (although am going into a theoretical physics degree) but my only comment on the subject would be that the questions are just more unforgiving in the sense that one mistake can drop you 5 marks, however as I said before, go with whichever you prefer. All-in-all you'll do better in a subject you actually like to learn rather than one that feels like a task to keep up with!

I get what you're saying. I also struggle with worded questions, and physics often has those tricky 8 marker questions that can be really tough. I prefer the calculation part of physics because it mostly involves learning and applying formulas.Plus, I find physics kind of boring and don't really have the motivation for it. So, even though the questions in further maths can be unforgiving, I think I still have a better chance of doing better in it than physics

Maths and Further Maths A level are good for Computer Science and required by Imperial College but places like Warwick University will accept you without it if your school did not offer it.

Beware, you are talking of cramming an A level into 1.5 terms (realistically, thats Sept to Feb half term) but if you find Further Maths really easy, this may not be a problem.

Yeah I know it is going to be a difficult task and currently we are doing year 2 further maths in my school as they are done with year 1. My teacher says i will have to attend both the year 1 and year 2 further math and also math class next year. But honestly when I think about the fact that it is either this or physics i kind of fall back to it as Further Math is more usefull and i honesty wish i picked it from the start instead of doing physics. I can't obviously change the past but I am going to try cover year 1 and possibly 2 over the summer. I feel math gets better over time with practice but physics i don't know really, maybe i am just not working hard enough but physics papers are just so difficult(I do AQA Physics). I have till summer to fully decide so any tip would be helpful
