Sonography / Ultrasound

Hello Everyone

i currently study biomedical science i completed my first year , i first wanted to do medicine but something just changed my mind suddenly and now i want to do sonography.

People have told me you have to have a Undergraduate in Radiography Ect to do Postgrad Sonography but biomedical science is not accepted.

I could leave first year and do radiology it’s not something i’m interested in but at the same time i don’t want to leave biomedical science incase in the future id like to do medicine which i’m not sure id switch too.

id like to ask for sonography postgrad is there interviews and what work experience would be good for me to comeplete in relation to sonography.

thanks

Leeds uni now offers a undergraduate degree in sonography. 2024 will be the first year of entry for the course:

https://courses.leeds.ac.uk/j755/medical-ultrasound-sonography-bsc

It's late in the application cycle to appy to a healthcare course, as you will be interviewed and need shadowing experience and public-facing work/volunteering experience. Consider taking a year out to work in a care home or similar while you get your application together.

Hi,
I am currently studying Diagnostic Radiography myself. I would say that Sonography is very competitive and difficult to get into since most places that do the courses for the Masters after you qualify as a Radiographer only offer the course but you need to find a hospital to complete the clinical training with and this can be particularly challenging as not many hospitals do it and you would be competing against loads of other candidates which want to get into the same programme.

Also it is not something that easy to get into if you are not very passionate about it.

Regarding work experience, if you're currently engaged in biomedical work experience, consider visiting the ultrasound department within the hospital and request to shadow their team. If this isn't possible, explore other NHS hospitals that may offer you a week-long elective to shadow their work. This experience not only enhances your skills, but it also allows them to gauge your interest, potentially leading to placement or trainee opportunities. This approach was successful for me.

Hey! I wanted to ask about shadowing. I’m in the process of arranging to shadow a sonographer (I’m a final year radiography student). Do I get some sort of written evidence or anything to confirm I have done shadowing?
