It's a flattering colour. It can make you look slightly slimmer and it's incredibly versatile that would more or less suit anyone.

If you want something more flamboyant though, black wouldn't be the colour that I would go to. I would then focus more on your body shape and the sort of style that you want. I would also look at the practicality of the dress considering this is for a prom as opposed to a ball.

As in practicality, do you mean like a slimmer dress rather than a ball gown?

I don't understand.

If you're talking about practicality, are you referring to the fact that you would likely be dancing in the dress? A smaller dress with fewer delicate frills would be more accommodating than a full blown ball gown irrespective of the colour.

If you want to look slimmer, chances are black would do that for you. You would need to compare and check with the mirror and some friends with good fashion sense to verify this though.

Well you mentioned to look at praticality as well when looking for a dress, so I thought you meant if the dress was practical to dance. I don’t really understand what you mean by praticality in the first message

They mean:
- will you be able to move around in it comfortably if you get a big poofy dress over a normal body fitting one
- would you be able to wear the dress again so is it worth spending a lot of money to wear it once for a school prom

i think black dresses look great, it works well on most people and is a wearable colour so you could wear the dress to another event(birthday dinner/uni formal etc)

What do you think of dark red? (I’m sorry for so many questions, im just a really indecisive person)
Do you think a dark red could be worn again? Also, the dress i want to get is like ball gown but I wouldnt say its so puffy. Im not sure tho, thats why i need opinions. Here some pictures with what I’m going with. I want to choose like a dark colour but I dont know which would be better.

(It looks big because her hand is lifting it but i guess its not as puffy than like really puffy dresses you could get)

Yes, I was referring to how well you can dance in it. This is more in terms of the size and what features the dress has as opposed to a full blown ball gown. See @vesperrr's post.

i do think that this is pretty and would be nice for prom
the only thing is that i cant see where you would wear it again but if you think it is worth spending the money then go for it! i would have a look on vinted and depop aswell as you might be able to find the same style dress for half the price x

The good thing is its already really cheap! About £100 I think but I’m just struggling with choosing a colour. I think I could wear it again for a future birthday party, or like to a friends wedding or something but Im still not too sure yet
