Newcastle Uni - Flexibility

How flexible is computer science with grades?
Does it usually have many applicants each year? How likely is there to be space when applying through clearing?

Hi,

Thank you for your interest in our Computer Science BSc Honours programme.

The standard entry requirements are AAB at A Level (or BBB at A Level for applicants eligible for a contextual offer; or BBC for applicants eligible for and applying through our PARTNERS Programme); excluding General Studies and Critical Thinking. We are committed to encouraging the adoption of A level Computing. Students applying with an A level in Computing will receive favourable consideration. A grade B or 6 is also required in GCSE Mathematics.

All applications are considered on an individual basis, and our Undergraduate Admissions Team look at your whole application profile when deciding whether or not to give you an offer: This may include:

whether your grades are predicted or achieved

your A Level subject profile

your personal statement

your school or college reference

evidence of relevant skills or aptitude

any special circumstances

Please note that this information is based on 2024 entry. We review our entry requirements every year so they are subject to changes for 2025 entry.

If you are already an offer-holder and you do not quite meet your offer conditions, we will consider you a 'near-miss' applicant. In this scenario, all applicants who met their offer conditions would receive their place. For any places we have left over, we will reconsider all ‘near-miss’ applicants and look to place the most promising applicants.

In regards to Clearing, we are unable to predict which courses will be available in Clearing as it is dependent on if we have places left on the course.

I hope this information helps. If you have any further queries, please fill in our enquiry form.
