It is pretty much impossible to vote electronically. Once you press the button, there is no easy way of ensuring that decision can not be tampered with at some point in the system. Sometimes the simplest solution is still the best. Our railways still use the same system developed by the Victorians. No one has come up with anything better.

Yes - but voting for something online is not the same as voting someone in power. When you click your button what evidence is there that you clicked that button or that the vote you placed was tallied with the person you intended to vote for. The opportunity for foul play is massive because all you have to show for your click is an electrical signal and at the point where that electrical signal enters your computer / device, it is lost to be interpreted or misused in whatever way those bent on mischief feel. If you have a piece of paper with your cross on it, it is pretty difficult in a legitimate election to tamper with or fake them.

These Reality TV and Radio things aren't held to any significant standard. Haven't you noticed they almost all have small print blurb to the effect of 'we reserve the right to end this contest at any time and our decisions are final?' Can't have that sort of nonsense for an election.

It's hardly a technology matter, some things are just easier to trust when it's marks on a physical ballot which is observed and counted openly.

Not everyone has access to a smart device. What makes you think that? There's still parts of the country with no Internet, too.

1. Like people have said: corruption/hacking
2. People like the elderly or disabled may not know how to use or have any Internet facilities
3. Poor connection issues in some areas
4. Pressure into voting a party you don’t want to. If you have a friend or partner sitting next to you when you are voting they may intimidate you

Governments care about swaying older peoples votes far more than they do about yours. or to a lesser extent, mine.

What nonsense! I bet the 98 year old person I do the shopping for knows more about this country than many young people.

So do you know that votes can be checked if you are impersonated? The number of your ballot paper is recorded against your name and they are openly counted. How would that work with an online system?
