I’ve been doing some research, and UCL have said on multiple occasions that they do not participate in clearing, however going off this request it seems they do, i’m slightly confused, so how does the process work for UCL?

Short answer is that I haven’t a clue.

However, this may have something to do with the wording of the FOI request. IE what courses accepted applications via clearing and clearing plus. These courses may not have been publicly available and instead went to waitlisted candidates via the clearing mechanism.

By waitlisted candidates do you mean candidates who had been accepted but didn’t meet entry requirements on results day?

No, I mean people who had been rejected but contacted by the uni to say they’d be accepted if they had space on results day.

‘Near miss’ offer holders wouldn’t need to use clearing.

NB. I have no idea whether the uni uses waitlists at all, (they’re not that common outside of medicine), but it might explain their stance that they don’t open to clearing and then contradict themselves with the FOI response.

Ohh ok makes sense, looking at tsr someone got matched for law last year on clearing plus, so I think they may use that more but again not sure. I’m just trying to gauge if there will be a similar process again this year but of course every year is different.
