Tutoring

Hey guys,

i have just finished my mocks- im in Yr10 btw and I really want to start tutoring people for biology, chemistry, physics and geography, maybe even foundation tier maths . I am quite good at these subjects- (I got 9s except maths- (Im in top set but the reasons why i didnt get a 9 in that is because we have not covered all the material). I just wanted to ask how i would go about getting a job as a tutor - (If possible) as i just want to make some extra cash and people have told me im good at explaining stuff.

are you planning on doing a levels because they are quite a lot to take in so maybe do like 3 subjects tutoring but if you can do all of them go for it!

You need to focus on getting good grades at GCSE - leave the tutoring for now. Most parents won't look at someone without any qualifications

Honestly I think if you're only in year 10 I'd probably wait till yr12. People will mostly want to be tutored for GCSEs so it's better to finish yours first. I'm not trying to dishearten you but if I was getting tutored I'd want someone who I know has sat the exam first hand and done well.

You're also going to be INCREDIBLY busy next year so I'd hold off.

Even as a yr12 myself who tutors, I've found it very difficult to find people because SO many other people tutor at this age to make some money. The only thing I can recommend is literally just asking around and seeing if anyone's siblings need help or if they know anyone else who needs help.

Good luck I hope it works out

your only in yr10. Anything can happen in the next year and you might not be as good as you think you are. I would wait until you finish your GCSEs and if the grades are the same (hopefully they are), then look to tutor. Most people would no want to be tutored by someone in yr10 as they are not proven yet. GL

Year 12 is too young really - you haven't studied any pedagogy. You should focus on your A levels and exploring ideas outside the curriculum.

Not having studied pedagogy doesn’t really discount how well someone might be able to teach! It can be a rewarding and enlightening experience: I’ve found it definitely offered an insight into what teaching might be like

Of course it does - how can you properly tutor if you don't understand how children learn best!! That's why you need a PGCE to teach in a state school.
