Student finance - parents moved to Scotland?

Hi, I'm a 25 year old student on an MBPhD course - I've just finished my PhD and will be going back to finish years 5 and 6 of my MBBS. I was looking to apply for SFE for the 2024/25 academic year, however my parents have moved to Scotland and not had a UK address since 2019/2020.

Will I still be able to apply through SFE with their income assessment? In year 5 I should recieve a fixed rate reduced maintainence loan that I don't think is means tested anyway? But I will need to declare my parents for the NHS bursary additional funding. I'm just a bit confused on whether my parents living in Scotland means I need to go through the Scottish system now, even though I am studying in England?

I also read that people 25 and over can't declare their parents as they're classed as independent students/mature students, but is this true for me as I started my course under 25?

Hi there,

If you're 25 before the start of the academic year we don't take your parents details into account as you will be classed as independent.

Thanks,
Claire

Hi there,

As you will be 25 at the start of the 24/25 academic year, you are automatically assessed as an independent student which means that your parents do not provide their income details to support the application.

Thanks, Clare
