Year 11 Summer

So I obviously have a longer summer holidays, due to finishing my exams. I'm just wondering what I could do?
I don't have any friends.
I don't have much money to travel anywhere.
All of my family will be busy throughout the holidays.
I'm not even sure if I'll get the grades for my courses, so im not sure I'm going to look at the summer work until I'm enrolled.
I've been trying to apply for jobs for a while with little luck.

What am I even meant to do this summer?

Hey, I understand it being frustrating to being able to travel and not having the option to hang out with friends. Hopefully my advice can be helpful! I would suggest at looking at clubs/events in the local area like book clubs/music events/festivals (as in the small local ones not the ravey ones lol) and finding people to talk to there. I know this can be daunting but friends/acquaintances are so important because humans are social creatures and if you find the right people to talk to, it will have a huge impact on your happiness.

I know it is easy to turn to the internet to make friendships but trust me, this should not be your main source of social interaction because then you will develop anti-social behaviours and end up staying indoors. Even taking yourself for a walk down the park on a sunny day can help immensely. In the meantime, if you are friendly with either of your parents, ask them to go places with you, to a theme park, the shops, a zoo, a museum anything that interests you and is affordable. I would also suggest making an honest attempt at having hobbies. Hobbies such as video gaming and watching informative/funny videos is ofc entirely fine but it has to be done in moderation. I remember over that summer spending around 7 hrs on YouTube a day and it is so not worth it. Try writing/reading/singing/playing guitar or the piano/baking/cooking. Anything to get you away from the addictive pull of the internet.

I would also try doing some research on the subjects you have picked, I understand not wanting to do the summer work until you know that you have been accepted, but keeping yourself busy with self-study that interests you will give you such a sense of purpose. Try to schedule a lot of your days so you don't end up losing track of them and so that you have clear things to work towards. I would also suggest keeping active by learning dances online or doing workout videos or going for a jog or even, if you're feeling brave, going to the gym. I have plenty experience sitting around all day and it does not make you feel good about yourself and comfortable in your skin.

I hope that these suggestions are useful and that you can maintain a sense of purpose over the summer, talk to new people and learn how to structure your days in a way that works for you. I don't expect you to be able to implement this all in one go so don't be hard on yourself, but I would highly recommend that you make honest efforts (yes plural because sometimes we make mistakes) because if you are able to do these things over the summer you will feel more accomplished and happy then spending most of your time online, staring out the window wondering when your life will start.

Thank you for your time and sorry for such a long reply lol, if you need anything else, just private message me. I hope this helps

PS: I like reading, anime, writing and learning languages so if any of these interests are shared, feel free to talk <3

I got a job in retail after my A-levels. Retails, cafes, restaurants and dessert places all would hire above 16 year olds.

Indeed is alright, but what I did was print out my cv and take it to shops. Went to a shopping centre and went to each shop and asked them if they're hiring, most of them said just apply online but some said yes we do and you can tell them you have your cv and you can hand it to them.

For most they will say apply online so each shop if you just search part time job or careers then write the name of the shop/supermarket you can see if they're hiring near you

hi! i know it might be a bit late, but i signed up for NCS residential trip as it looks good on your cv and most people sign up without friends, so it would be a fun trip to meet new people! and you get to do activities like absailing and ziplining and all that, best part is that it is funded my the government so its really cheap! you get 5 days away i think, you should check out and see if there is any more spaces
