Disclaimer: I am getting support from the rcn and my university student union already.
I’m looking for some advice/guidance, I’m currently studying Pre-reg MH Nursing, I’ve been suspended from both placement and academic studies under the professional suitability policy. Earlier this year I was assaulted at my home address, which required police involvement on the night. I carried on with my studies and attended placement as normal following this event and then disclosed it to my university tutor following a day of absence from placement because of having a day of poor mental health. The university then asked for my account of the event. I was then suspended two days later and they had contacted the police for information and the account I had provided differed to the one I provided the police on the night. This was unintentional and my reconciliation of the event isn’t clear in my mind. The university then contacted my place of work (outside of my degree) to inform them of this and I have since been suspended from my place of work whilst it is looked into further. They are questioning my honesty, integrity and ability to safeguard others. I’m finding this difficult and feel the possibility of being withdrawn from my course and unable to become a mental health nurse because my reconciliation of a traumatic event has differed, very overwhelming. I’d appreciate any advice and outside perspectives.
