how do I stop picking my fingers

hello, I've always picked my fingers a lot, and if I ever have a scab I will pick it for months, and it doesn't heal. I've tried stopping, but it never works- I usually do it when I'm stressed. fidget toys sometimes help, but mostly I don't have them on me. I hate doing it but I don't know how to stop- any advice?

heya, i do the same (like constantly lol), if anyone has any tips pls share im begging
tho ive found its actually quite helpful to wear rings loads - you can fiddle w them instead of picking at the skin (doesn't work all the time but its better than nothing?)

thanks, I considered fidget rings but I'm not allowed them at school which is when I'm doing it the most+ during exams- although I might be allowed next year so I'll see about that. it's so bad, some of my fingers look horrendous, I kinda want to get nails done for prom but tbh I'd be embarassed to go to anyone. I also managed to stop for a solid 4 months a year ago but I can't anymore ugh.

Hey there, I don't pick my fingers, I actually pick at my lips lol, but some advice, because some people I know pick their fingers, wear plasters around where you pick the most so you can't actually get at the skin, pick the plaster instead, and to try and heal your skin use a moisturising hand cream, I love the soap and glory hand cream, but find one that works best for your skin type, also, have you tried painting your nails, and picking the polish instead of your skin? you can easily redo your nails so it doesn't even matter than much if you pick at them. also, try to keep your hands busy, you say you're not allowed rings but maybe try paper or something, like just ripping it up, you can always just put it in the bin, or if you feel the urge to pick doodle instead, do something with your hands to prevent them from picking.
Hope some of this might help

Thank you! I did put plasters once, but then so many people asked me what was wrong (no one asked if they could see that I picked my fingers) so I felt really judged and gave up. I tried so many moisturisers (my mum said the same thing as you lol) and my eczema (also on my fingers which doesn't help) always flared up. I'll try with the nail polish, and doodling does somewhat help, but what usually happens is that I doodle with one hand and pick the other with my teeth (sorry tmi). thank you though!

Maybe, you could put plasters over the scabs so you don't pick at it. Using higher quality plasters might be better so u arent tempted to rip them off. If you are concerened of people seeing them, try getting ones that match ur skin tone

ahh, well it's good that you've tried a range of things, I think nail polish could be the next thing to try as hopefully you'll pick at that instead <3
