would sitting a gcse i didn’t take originally in sixth form count as a result?

at the start of my gcses i chose just triple biology and chemistry, so i don’t have gcse physics. did this because i was very confident i wouldn’t want to go into sciences/medicine.

fast forward two years and i’ve completely changed my tune but annoyingly a lot of medical schools, including oxford and the one closest to where i live, require physics. if i took edexcel IGCSE physics next year in sixth form as a private candidate, would it count as a resit?? i’ve heard a lot of the good places also don’t look kindly on resits but because i never sat it in the first place i don’t know if i’d have to declare it as a resit or not

Hi,
I think you’ve thought wrong about Oxford needing physics, bc I am pursuing med too and almost no one takes physics for it. This is Oxford’s entry requirements
A-levels: A*AA in three A-levels (excluding Critical Thinking and General Studies) taken in one academic year. Candidates are required to achieve at least grade A in both Chemistry and at least one of Biology, Physics or Mathematics.

Here’s Cambridges entry requirements
To apply to any of our Colleges for Medicine, you will need A level/IB Higher Level or the equivalent in:

Chemistry

2 other science or mathematics subjects from:

Mathematics

Biology or Human Biology

Physics

Further Mathematics

Here’s Imperial’s requirements

AAA
To include:

A in Biology

A in Chemistry

A in a third subject

All qualifications must be taken in the same sitting.
Those are generally what all medical schools require; none will ever ask you for physics over chem/bio. If you have chem + bio/maths, you’re more than good.
Hope this helps! And remember, your A-level grades matter more than your GCSES x

Hi,
Generally speaking, med schools don’t look at your GCSEs in too much depth, so not having physics won’t affect your ability to get into med schools
