What extracurricular activities could I do from home to get into university?

I desperately want to study marine biology at my dream university and have become worried about my chances of getting in due to not having a preferred A-level subject. (I will meet the requirements and extenuating circumstances are definitely important to mention, but I just couldn't bear to take chemistry.)

What's even considered "extracurricular" - is putting time into self-directed learning on chemistry a good idea? I probably will anyway to prepare myself, but will it be appreciated by the university? I won't be able to do anything even remotely social thanks to anxiety 🥳

Hi!

It's great that you have a set goal of getting into this course! I would say that doing self directed learning can definitely be useful. For example, The Open University have free short courses available online so it could be worth checking there for any relevant learning. Writing your personal statement will be a great way to show all of your passion for the subject so I would say to keep that in mind, maybe consider what in particular you are interested in when it comes to the subject and what you want your career to be one day. Putting all of this into your personal statement can really show how passionate you are about your chosen subject.

I hope this helped and good luck!
