Try and unpack your room on the first day if you can. It makes you feel more put together and makes your room feel more like yours, rather than just having boxes everywhere which isn't helpful if you do start to feel homesick. Along the same lines, I would also get some pictures of you and your friends and family printed off so that your room feels a bit more homely.

Go out and explore your new area! It's a good idea to have a walk around town, try and see where things are and also try and see where some of your uni buildings will be! This is helpful when you start lectures and you need to find things as it can be tricky to find all of the buildings but it does help if you know your way around town a little bit.

Go to the freshers fairs. There is usually a societies fair, sports fair and freebie fair to name a few so it is worth going to these. It's a good way to go out with your flatmates and do something that isn't just going out, and it's also good to get to know some of the uni buildings! It's also great to check out things like societies and see if there are any that you would want to join as these are great tie make friends and do something fun! I would also think about signing up to some trial sessions for societies if you see any that you like the sound of as these are good ways of seeing if you like the societies before committing and signing up as they can be expensive.

Try and say yes to as much as you can! If someone asks you to go out, try and say yes as it's good to try and meet lots of different people in freshers week as you won't necessarily stay close with everyone. It's also fun to go to lots of different things as everyone is excited and wants to make friends!
