PPE at UCL vs at KCL

Got offers from both. How do they compare? What's the teaching like at both? What's the teaching support like? Is one better than the other? Responses form current and former alumni from either welcome!

Not applying for your degree/am not at uni but I have heard that employment wise ucl is better whilst there is also the option to take a social data science part with the degree at ucl. Also generally, most people I have spoken to seem to find ucl better than kings in general but I wouldn't be able to give you my own opinion on this.

If you think about it, UCL is ranked much higher then KCL, and also have a higher percentage of students finding a job post-graduating

Philosophy - UCL is better. (However, KCL is 13th and UCL is 22nd in the world according to QS Rankings 2024)
Politics - UCL is better. (However, KCL is 12th and UCL is. 22nd " )
Economics - UCL is better. (UCL is 18th. KCL is 116th " )

Based on research quality on www.thecompleteuniversityguide.co.uk.
As universities overall, UCL is ranked 9th in the world and KCL 40th on QS Rankings 2025.

These 2 universities of a similar age only have Edinburgh and Manchester inbetween them, in terms of UK universities, in world academic ratings. But KCL does sometimes do better than UCL in research in UK rankings e.g. Classics.

UCL is known for higher entry requirements for most subjects, although not necessarily by much (only 1% more in the case of Politics).

But only by about 1 to 2% and, actually, for Economics, KCL graduates find jobs more easily than UCL graduates. (But maybe the UCL Economics graduates don't need any old job as much because 2% more UCL Economics graduates than KCL Economics graduates are currently doing something related to their future plans).

Of these subjects, it's Politics which is notably better for graduate prospects at UCL than KCL.

A decent indicator of prestige for universities of similar age and standing is percentage of private school educated students. In 2023, it was 29.5% at UCL, 18% at KCL.

UCL is the 'safer bet'.
