Universities on results day

If the universities receive our grades before us what happens once we know our grades? Does the uni email/phone us or do we have to message them?

UCAS Hub should already be updated with a decision and confirmation whether you've been placed anywhere, (either because you met the conditions in full, or the uni decided to accept you anyway).

You should only need to contact a uni if they have not made a decision on UCAS. More info:

In the days before Results Day, whilst Uni's are processing A level results, UCAS goes 'dark' and applicant's cannot access it.
It will reopen at about 7am on Results Day morning and you will then be able to see your Uni's decisions.
You will not be able to see your actual results - and of course, its possible that a Uni may accept you 'below' your offer grades.

If you have a decision - UF = now Unconditional - you do not need to contact the Uni 'just to check'.
