Working after college

Hi,

I'm hoping to get a job after sixth form especially as I finish early in 2 weeks time and I'm taking a gap year so this job would hopefully be at a decent pay. There are different jobs advertised in the nearby schools such as admin assistant, behaviour officer and TA all of which only require GCSE qualifications but would I still be able to apply? I am currently 17 but will be 18 soon so would that make a difference? I don't really want to work at Tescos or something but are there any sort of jobs that I would be eligible for? I don't have any experience apart from volunteering but if I get a job like this it would be beneficial going forward.

Thanks

Hey,

I would say apply for those admin jobs. Even if you do not have any real work experience that is completely fine. I got my first job at 18 as a support worker with no real work experience just that I volunteered at a care and at a charity shop before. And I am currently 19 still going strong at the job and uni (I study Radiotherapy and Oncology)

So yh dw about ur experiences for now.

As for what sort of jobs you could apply for here are some suggestions: Support Worker, Waiting Staff, at Mcdonalds/KFC, Ik u don't want to work in tescos and stuff but those are good options to have, working as a sales assistant as John Lewis, M & S etc.

Also, may I ask what industry you volunteered at before? You could potentially work in the same industry. If you did other stuff at school or college like Dofe, being charity ambassadors, and other things those are considered as experiences as well.

If you need any more help w/ anything else, don't hesitate to contact me.

Cheers

Hi,

I have applied for TA, admin roles and support worker positions so I'm hoping to have a break through there. My parents aren't too keen on me being a sales assistant or working at fast food places that's why I'm not too confident if I fit the criteria for the jobs I have applied for.

Do you mind me asking if you enjoy your job? What does it require and is it challenging?

I volunteered at a care home for a few months and I also volunteered with a local kids activity club.

But thank you for the advice, much appreciated.

You could give the jobs a try. The worst they could say is no.
And working at supermarkets like tesco etc isnt that bad.
I worked at mcdonalds for ages- they take on a lot of students, are very flexible and the pay was above minimum wage.

Hey,

sorry for replying so late, writing anyway in case it might help other people.

I do enjoy my job. It is challenging but very rewarding. You need to be friendly, open, and just a good person in general who possesses common sense.

Hey, no worries. Actually I’ve got an admin job in a law firm- I’ve been working there for 4 months now! I’m glad you enjoy your job, I enjoy mine too.
