Strathclyde or Edinburgh

I have an offer for both Universities and I cant make my mind up, studying Politics and Social Policy. on the open day visit felt like the humanities dept. were 'homeless' at Strathclyde as they didn't have a dedicated building. Strathclyde is a great University with a positive reputation but don't want to miss out on the opportunity to study at Edinburgh - thoughts?

Strathclyde will be easier and cheaper but don't want to miss out on the opportunity to study at Edinburgh - thoughts?

Hey @SandraReid 😀 Big congrats on both of your offers! That's really exciting.

The Humanities & Social Sciences (HASS) students are based all over campus but your academic advisors still have offices for you to engage with them. Your academics for Politics would be based in the McCance building, and Social Policy is based in the Lord Hope building. It's generally the same rule across all cohorts unless you're a STEM student with specific labs - but even they would find themselves all over campus so it's not unique to HASS students 🙂 Students use all the different spaces over campus regardless of what they're studying so you do really feel that 'campus' vibe I'd say.

Opt for whichever university you feel is most 'you'. Which campus did you enjoy the most? Do you prefer the environment of an ancient university, or a modern campus?

Have you considered the course modules yet? Compare them both closely - make sure that the classes you can pick are ones you'll enjoy and look forward to.

Try to pick the uni experience that will give you the type of opportunities you're looking for - through the general environment of the uni, the classes on offer, the clubs/societies, employabiltiy etc.

Happy to answer any questions you've got! Good luck wherever you decide! 🤗

I'd go Edinburgh. Edinburgh has much better student societies and vibes. The fact Strathclyde doesn't even have a dedicated building is a massive red flag for me!
Though must warn you Edinburgh is known to be snobbish. The fact they've given you an offer though shows you're good enough to do well at that uni so I'd take it!

Depends on the vibe you want. I'm loving strathclyde and have joined sports societies and the sports building. And Glasgow is an amazing city to live in for live music, shopping, going out. Also seems to be more Scottish students on my course than there would have been at Edinburgh.

That's a really good point, Glasgow is an amazing place for students, we have the best music venues and loads is going on outside the student unions in the city itself. I feel very safe in Glasgow and public transport is fantastic - it's the most connected city in the UK outside London!
