English Lit A-Level Coursework: Comparing The Great Gatsby with Wuthering Heights.

Hey!

I am currently a year 12 student studying A-Level English Literature along with 3 other subjects.

I have recently started The Great Gatsby in class, which I have to compare with another piece of literature on a theme of my choice. (The coursework is 20% of my final grade. Not a big deal, I know, but I would like to do really well in it as who knows what could happen during actual exams.)

I am thinking of comparing TGG with Wuthering Heights, as I've heard of people doing it in the past and getting very high marks.

If anybody has any ideas on themes that could work especially well, any comparisons I could make (similarities and differences) or just absolutely anything that could be of use to me I would really appreciate it.

The essay is 2,500-3,000 words.

I do edexcel.

Thank you!

class is massively important in both novels, both as something that limits the characters and something that the authors critique. both share the theme of intense, obsessive and destructive love. their respective settings reflect the characterisation and plot dramatically - you can discuss symbolism here. you could even do a queer reading by talking about how cathy and heathcliff are incredibly fluid in their identities
