Hi there!

I personally don't study computer science but my partner is currently studying in the computer science department in Edge Hill University. He didn't do a maths A-Level and it is not required in computer science courses! There are elements of using maths in the degree, it is not an overwhelmingly large part of his course. Although it is worth checking the specific course content to make sure it is something you would be happy with.

I hope this helped, good luck!!

That will be very difficult in a cs degree, because the fundamentals of cs if from maths and physics, so you will be to leanr a bit of maths in any cs course 🙂

Plain comp sci BSC is always going to contain some maths. What aspect of computer science do you enjoy? Maybe a more specialised degree in cybersecurity of soft engineering ect..

They probably mean that they have less maths compared to other computer science courses.

Hey OP, take a look at this thread. You will be hard pressed to find a course with no maths at all, unfortunately it is the backbone to many aspects of CS.

I'm not great at maths either yet I'm still going into CS, Cyber Security if it matters (it doesn't). I take it you're not going to focus too much on AI aside from the mandatory modules, you barely need calculus anymore then so don't worry.

Part of the point of the A-level maths to teach you problem solving skills, which is integral to CS. Unis tend towards Maths and FM because it demonstrates ability, not because there is absolute knowledge that you will only understand once you have conquered volumes of revolution.

Hope this helps, don't let missing A-level maths dishearten or dissuade you 😊.

Looks like comp sci isnt the degree for you then tbh. You've got some idealistic version of a course you want to study, but degree computer science simply isnt the same as a level and gcse, maybe do an apprenticeship then, or pick another course.

You don't need A-Level Mathematics to study Computer Science at the following, amongst othes and, as far as I can see, these don't involve covering mathematics at university:

Newcastle

Might have to be the route if you're vehemently against Maths, sorry 🙁

Hi Brian,

You would be surprised... I completed a computer studies degree in LJMU. In year 2 and 3 I had Maths modules. There wasn't many but you did require Maths and English, even if its only a function skills qualification.

Hope this helps!
