Top up funding

Dd wants to do a top up degree to a level 6 diploma. It is a full time course.

Is she able to access funding? She never used funding for the level 6 diploma

Hi there, we would need some more information to determine this.

Can you confirm the full name of the new course and university? How many years will it be? When does the new course start? Can you give a breakdown of the previous study they have done, and how many years they have previously studied? Thanks, Leah.

It's a BA (hons) in musical Theatre. It is a top up and she will enter year 2 so do two years. It's with university of Bolton. The course starts in Sept 24.

She has done a Level 6 diploma in Professional Dance. Not using student Finance. It was 3 years.

Thanks for looking.

Hi there,

Thanks - yes, based on what you've said the student should be entitled to funding from us for the duration of the top-up.

To know for sure, we'd strongly recommend that she makes an application online as soon as possible. That way, we can confirm to her exactly what she's entitled to.

Thanks, Graeme

We finally had her application looked at and they have now asked for a letter stating what course she has done, how long etc and a certificate. We put all of this on the application form. Why is this needed?

I am so worried she will be turned down but she starts in a few weeks so we have already bought uniform and kit etc.

Hi laineykp,

This means that the student has indicated that they may hold an equal level qualification, if this was a mistake, she can just indicate that on a cover letter and include any evidence of university transcripts to show her current level of qualification etc if this is applicable. If she doesn't have the evidence, again she can just explain this on the cover letter.

Thanks, Clare

She has a level 6 qualification and has applied to top up to an honours degree. I was led to believe that this will be accepted? It was all in her application.

It was a level 6 Diploma in Professional Dance from Trinity College London. This was 3 years.

She is going to do a BA (hons) in musical theatre to top up. It is a 3 year course but she is going in at year 2 so only doing 2 years.

Thank you for confirming.

As Graeme advised previously to send evidence or a cover letter confirming her previous study so we can reassess her application. We require this to make her eligible for the top-up. Do you know when this was sent to us?

Thanks, Ross

It was sent yesterday so I know it might take a while. I am just worried about the timescale to the start of term. Thank you for your response. I know it is a busy time.

Do you think it will be accepted?

Hi there, We are unable to advise if the evidence will be accepted until reviewed by the assessing team. The current expected timescale to allow for the evidence to be reviewed is 29 working days. Thanks, Angela

Thanks for the reply. But she starts the course in less than 29 working days?! How do we work that?

Hi there, We would advise to inform the university that funding has been applied for but is still under review to be assessed. You can advise of the current expected timescale advised for current evidence to be reviewed. Thanks, Angela

It will be reviewed on a case-case basis.

Once it's reviewed the student will be notified and it's an estimated 29 working days for processing.

Thanks,
Ross

Thank you Ross. It just feels like we are in limbo at the moment. But I appreciate your time to look at this for me.
