question about Elizabethan

hi im studying Elizabeth England for my History GCSE. im a bit confused about the plan to marry Mary Queen of Scots to the Duke of Norfolk. By textbook is quite confusing and I don't understand if this plan was against or for Elizabeth. Who is plotting against who and what is the reason for this plot? is it part of the Revolt of the Northern Earls?
Thank you for any help it's very much appreciated. Have a lovely day !! <3

So yes, this a part of the revolt of the northern earls in 1569. The Duke of Norfolk wants to marry Mary Q of Scots and take the throne from Elizabeth to be new catholic rulers. Obviously, this plot was not able to be carried out but represents the catholic sentiment in the north against Elizabeth and her protestant ideology. To further consolidate your understanding it may be worth reading this: Revolt of the Northern Earls (1569-1570) | Reference Library | History | tutor2u I hope this helps
