Study help again 😭

So basically I waste a lot of time on my phone instead of studying because I will study for a hour then intend to take a 5 min break but go on my phone and ignore the break and waste three hours

Feel this one! I think it is important to have a plan before going into studying, for example: 10:00-11:00 - English revision, 11:00-11:30 - get a drink and go outside for a bit, 11:30-12:30 - Maths revision, 12:30 - 2:00 - lunch etc. If for breaks you can walk around the house, talk to someone or go on a walk, then they can be productive breaks that allow you to come back to your work without getting distracted for too long. Ofc this is easier said than done, but I think it is important to keep trying even when it feels like being focused is impossible. Hold yourself accountable, but don't beat yourself up. Hope this helps a little bit 🙂 If you then reserve using your phone until you have decided that you have done enough work, then you won't need to worry so much about wasting time

try doing an action hour. it's 45 minutes of work and a 15-minute break. make sure you put on a timer but remember not to beat yourself up about it if you can't stick exactly to the time schedule just bring yourself back to the moment it creates this unhelpful cyclical cycle when you think about how much time you "wasted". That will make things more difficult. for your phone you can download study help/focus apps that will block most apps on your phone.

Hey,

I'm Haya and I'm a final year medical student.

I totally get you as I also have this same problem, however I was able to combat it using the Pomodoro method and applications on my phone that help me focus.

The pomodoro method 🍅is broken up into multiple steps:
1. Pick a task
2. Set a 25 minute timer
3. Work till the time is up
4. Take a 5 minute break
5. Every 4 breaks, take a longer 15-30 minute break.

Let me know what you think,
Haya- MBBS

I usually would put my phone on do not disturb or leave my phone in another room if I really need to focus. When I give myself a break and go on my phone I wouldn't really give myself a time limit but more of a under 15 minute rule and quit when I want to but if I've reached my 15 minute mark I force myself and if you do it often enough it stops being so difficult.
