A PhD is a great opportunity to further develop your academic writing and progress your career in academia! Each university will have specialised areas where they focus their research so finding the right fit for you can be tricky! I am going to talk about considering a PHD from De Montfort University. The process for other universities will be similar, but I would advise looking at the specific university guidelines!📖
Here at DMU we have an excellent Doctoral College with a great community and culture of research. PHD students are offered great mentorship and we offer a supporting, nurturing environment to help you succeed with your PHD studies! 🎓
How to apply?
You need to start off by choosing which path you would like to go down. We offer a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), International PhD (IPhD), PhD through Extended - Professional Experience and Doctor of Business Administration (DBA). We offer fulltime programmes which are for three years and part time which are up to six years. We offer three intakes a year in October, January and April. 😊
Entry Requirements
To be a student an applicant must hold a UK Honours degree at at least a 2:1 or a masters degree or an academic or professional qualification and experience. You must also be able to demonstrate competence in English language
Write Your Proposal
As part of the application process you must write a research proposal outlining the nature of your research. This is so DMU can assess and see if you are a fit for the course and that we can support your research needs. For more advice on how to write a proposal click here: Research proposal (dmu.ac.uk)
Find A Supervisor
Applicants must have contacted a supervisor to discuss their proposal before applying. This can help you find a likeminded supervisor who can support your research and guide you through the PhD.
Funding💰
Tuition fees vary depending on which type of student you are. Currently UK students will pay, £4.786 for full time students per year and £2,393 for part time per year. For international students it is £14,675 for full time per year and £7,338 for part time per year. DMU do offer some scholarships and offer an alumni discount!
