Work experience clothes

I have a work experience placement at a retail store called saltrock coming up soon. They have specified that the dress code is smart casual. What would be suitable to wear as i dont want to wear anything like jeans if its going to get me told off but it is casual but would be smart if i wore a white blouse/shirt?

Can't go wrong with a white blouse/shirt. Think along the lines of "would this get me dress coded at school?" kind of thing. When I was in 6th form the dress code was smart casual so no jeans, slogans, shorts, showing shoulders, miniskirts etc.
Black pants and either a plain black/white t-shirt or button up shirt/blouse

A white blouse/shirt with either black trousers would be fine. Places like Sainsburys/M&S/Next/ASDA I've found are pretty useful for interview clothes / smart clothing
As above, and make sure you have a pair of smart and comfortable low-heeled shoes. If it's retail you're going to be on your feet a lot and you need to have something for safety to avoid slips and trips. Best of luck!
