Hi, I am also wanting to go to laet and it is 1h 47mins away from me. I don't know if I would be any help but I will try to answer them from what I heard from students that attend there now.
1, Most people live in the surrounding area it with the current year 12 quite a few lived far. For example, South.
2, Is very diverse if your planning to go for the year 12 2024 but the current one has more black and mixed than others.
3, The after school club is mandatory just like lae but I think it might just be for Yr 12. I didn't really ask that so not 100% sure.
4, Since on the website it states is the sister school of lae I am guessing they are academically strict but environment wise i heard they are really nice.
5,The dress code is the same like lae but they "dress up" when there is events. For example, open days.
6,Most are beforehand since they take there Frist hand set from the nearby secondary schools. But it is really easy to make friends so you don't need to worry about that.
7,I am not sure about that but I am attending the taster day on the 5th of July so I might ask that.
8,There are frees if you do 4 alevels. If you decide to drop one to 3 alevels at the end of year 12 there are more frees. Not sure if you can leave during them tho.
9, I can only put my opinion for Laet, Lae and Brampton since I have looked at those schools quite a bit. But considering the fact that your taking all the grade 9 and 8 students from top set is what Brampton does. It looks like is alot of homework time on there website but that would be around what those students would study. For Lae is really does depend on what you want as alevels beacuse if is chemistry, biology, maths and history for example. You can just go there. Based on the schools there are huge differences like LAET has sport day not sure if Lae has it too but it doesn't state it on there website. LAET has 90s day and a more variety of clubs such as sport ones. Lae has ALOT of shops and it is faster to get on buses when going home. But Laet's buses run fast like 6-8mintues.
Like I said I don't go to the school yet but I am hoping this could help you a bit.

Hey I'm a current year 12 I'll happily answer!
1) alot of people are from walthamstow, haringey or enfeild but dont commute very long but I do know people that live in south and travel over an hour to school so its definately not uncommon.
2) The school is really diverse and the range of countries my peers are from is definetly cool. Thats why culture day was so good!!
3) There are no mandatory afterschool clubs at LAET what we have is mandatory clubs slot every wednesday period 1 where we can do things ranging from music and drama to chemistry not covered in the curriculum. of course there are societies like medsoc after school which is mandatory for those who want to do medicine or dentistry which is currently held on thursdays I believe
4) Being a selective school it is strict academically and you do require a C and above in your subjects to continue to year 13 with it but realistically if you work hard it is a reasonable target to achieve. Teacher support is amazing, they are always happy to help and there are subject drop in sessions every week. school closes at 6pm everyday so the study space is free to use during this time also. However the social life at LAET is a major plus with our events like culture day, kareoke night, movie night etc.
5) The dress code is pretty standard: no trainers, no uggs, no hoodies and the rest is up to what you percieve as 'smart casual' just dress decently is what I'd say.
6) I knew nobody but made loads of friends it's nothing to be worried about. Others did know eachother but welcomed me into their groups with open arms since everyone is so friendly
7) There is free breakfast every morning which is from 8am to 8:45-55am depends on how early kitchen staff decide to pack away.
8) When doing four a levels you have four frees over the course of two weeks when I dropped to three, all my lessons in that subject turned into frees which added around 10 hours of independant study over a fortnight. You can't leave during frees until the end of year 12 (after the year 13 a levels finish)
9) when apply to schools I didn't look at any of these options as LAET was the closest to me ot of them but I do know that they are all equally academically rigorous so it's truly up to you which suits you the most!
I hope this helps!!!
