2nd year going to freshers

Hi, I missed out on freshers in first year as I had to move in later. Do many people in second year go to freshers? I mostly just want to get to meet some of the people running societies, which I should've done much sooner realistically. I'm terrified of being judged even though it's mostly irrational and I think I might be struggling with anxiety. I was just wondering if it would be strange if a 2nd year was walking around the fair and each of the societies, mainly because I'm worried about introducing myself to the societies and telling them I'm already in 2nd year. Not sure I'd be able to go to any events or anything though.
Oh don't worry, just enjoy your life x Why should you care about what others think, matter of fact, you don't need to explain yourself to anyone nor tell anyone your in 2nd year, Freshers week is for everyone to get along. So don't worry about that x
In terms of anxiety you should speak to your GP about it and see what they can do for you. You can just introduce yourself and leave it as that no need to explain yourself to nobody. Enjoy your life, remember we only have one life to live!!

Thankyou so much, that's very reassuring. I am really excited to see what freshers is like and I really appreciate the advice! I guess there are probably others doing the same thing and I'd like to get along with everyone and be myself a bit more. I really appreciate the reply, I think I just needed a bit of support so I'm definitely going to talk to my gp.

Thankyou so much, I can't wait and I'm sure I'll have lots of fun!
Yes you can out, typically 2nd years plus may go to different club nights then the formal university linked deal as freshers buy a vastly overpriced package deals but it’s pretty much all fair game as long as your a student.

You're so welcome and I'm sure you'll have a great time too!! x
I went every year of uni and honestly, loads of people do! Plus no one can tell what year you’re in once you’re there

Hi there,

Great question!

It's absolutely fine to go to Freshers as a second year. I actually did it myself during my second year and found the experience to be a lot more useful and fulfilling compared to when I went as a first year. I had a much better idea of what societies/sports clubs I wanted to talk to and ultimately got a lot more out of the day because of this.

Try not to worry. There will be more second, and even third years, at Freshers' than you might expect, so just remember that you won't be alone. Also, you likely won't even have to share that you are a second year unless you need to state it when signing up for something anyway (even then, nobody will judge you😊).

Hope that reassures you. Enjoy Freshers!

Best wishes,
Megan (Third Year Politics and International Relations Student at Swansea University).

Hi, don't worry about this as these events are available to everyone. Even with the societies there is no need to worry about being a 2nd year. In my society we have 1st - 4th years, people who have graduated from our uni already, Postgrads that attend our uni, people that attend or graduated from another university, and even people that just live in the area and don't attend any uni. Societies are a very social space that welcome everyone. I hope you have a great time at the freshers fair and make a ton of new friends. 🙂

Hi there,

Don't worry, it is absolutely fine to go to the Fresher's events at any year!

I went in both my first and second year, and definitely plan on going once I return for my fourth and final year! I find that I can get a lot more out of it, know what I am interested in, and enjoy the freebies a lot more.

It is likely that no one can tell, no one will judge, and no one will ask unless you have to specify when signing up for something. You might as well make the most of what your university offers!

Don't worry, have fun, and enjoy Fresher's!
