Its a total waste of time.
There is no job anywhere that requires this BTEC, and many Universities explicitly exclude it.

Just get an apprenticeship - you'll also get paid - Apprenticeships - Overview | Hays Travel Careers

Hi. Don’t strictly listen to the guy above (no hate to them).

I actually do Level 3 travel & tourism so I understand everything about the BTEC.

I do it in a sixth form college so I do a mixed programme of a levels and BTECs. I’m quitting after this year but the reason why is travel is not what I want to do so I’m taking A-Level biology instead.

Let me start by saying why in the actual would you do a Level 2? That’s equivalent of a GCSE and completely a waste of time imo. A level 3 however is equivalent to an A-level so that is more justified.

One thing I will start by saying is DO NOT and I repeat DO NOT take travel & tourism unless you are good at writing essays. Ok yes, you have to write tons and tons of essays but they are so easy however. You do not have to think much and so far I’ve gotten distinction on every coursework and the exam. I’m projected a D* overall which is equivalent of an A*.

Regarding the boring part it can get a bit boring and tedious with the coursework but I wouldn’t say it’s the most boring subject out there. Obviously to even think about studying travel you must have an interest so in that respect I reckon you’ll enjoy it.

Regarding units I did Edexcel and the units were

The world of travel & tourism (exam based)

Principles of marketing in travel and tourism (coursework based)

Global Destinations (Exam Based)

Visitor Attractions (Coursework Based)

They may be different for your course so make sure to check.

I also would like to stress do not take travel unless you like business. The whole course is pretty much above business and you have to analyse how businesses are running their companies correct and things such as market research and new products and services.

Let me know what you think about all this, I hope this was informative and I hope you enjoy! 🙂

I should also add regarding the job opportunities. I take it you don’t want to go to uni because although not impossible I doubt you will get into uni purely from travel.

Job opportunities afterwards I will admit there is not a ton but they are still around and hopefully you find a great job in a local travel agents. (Easier if you live in a bigger place)

I’ve also applied for level 2 travel and tourism this September, though might switch to level 3 as i got enough GCSE’s to pass for level 3. Lemme tell you I’m terrified, I couldve chosen to join my friends and go to do a levels at a college close my, yet I choose to apply to a btec college that nobody I know is going to. But it’s always been a dream of mine to be cabin crew in the future so this is me pursuing that dream. Good luck for this September and I hope everything works out for you xx
