The Student Room Group

Biased marking by my teachers in Fine art. How do I report this to AQA?

When I first started Fine art I really enjoyed it because it was something new. Now our exams have been marked by the teacher I have received a score a lot lower than expected. This was a teacher who called my work BS at the beginning of the year and had this passive aggressive way of acting towards me. Apparently she almost made a student take her life and she bullied a dude with cancer, this caused him to leave and drop out. In the first instance I reported this incident (her calling my work BS) to the headteacher. He sat me down in a room with her calling me sensitive and no apology was given. I'm not sensitive at all and couldn't care what people said about it. My theme was war and my exam theme I chose was light in the landscape. War was about my experiences of mandatory conscription in my country and my family and how brutal it is and by exam piece was a Hokusai style piece with a lighting element. I believe there is a highly racial element as well as I'm the only ethnic minority in the class, the only male in the class. I told her about the Vietnam war (which I know more about) and said Vietnam won, she laughed and said, "They won?" She would also ridicule me in front on the girls whether it be directly or indirectly. I do not have trust in their marking process and I need my work to be moderated by the actual AQA board and examiners because the examiners may not pick my work to mark. How would I report this to AQA and get it moderated externally?
The general consensus from exam boards (I looked up the AQA website) seems to be that you need to get your school to contact the exam board about this. Maybe speak to the exams officer or even the headteacher. If they refuse it may qualify as centre malpractice in which case you may want to contact AQA yourself using their website. If on results day the issue hasn’t been resolved I believe you can appeal grades for remarking and for arts subjects this means all students work must be externally moderated and checked. Hope this helps a little, I’m definitely not particularly informed on the issue as I’m just in year 11 but I do know a fair bit about this sort of thing.
