Third year nursing student - placement hours.

Hello everyone, just after a bit of advice regarding placement hours. Last year on one of my placements I caught scabies and therefore was advised by OH that I shouldn’t attended placement. I was itchy and in pain for those weeks, however after I felt fine but was still told I couldn’t go into practice, despite feeling well and ready to return. I am now down on hours, but feel like this wasn’t my fault? Whilst off I completed e-learning and did further research etc. I was just wondering whether there was anything I could do to claim some hours back from this, or if anyone is in the same boat?
Thank you all

Does yoir uni not have a retrieval/recoup period?
At the end of each year my uni has 4 weeks set aside to either catch up on hours or re do a placement if we failed for whatever reason.
I would speak to your uni about it though

My uni does have a retrieval period, which I completed. However the 4 week period does not enable me to catch up on many hours, when comparing it to my placement being 12 weeks overall. I’m able to just make up the hours this year, but it just seems a bit unfair to me considering I was just a/w for confirmation from OH to go continue.
Hi there,

I had to take 6 weeks off (so one entire placement for me) even though I was signed fit to return after mid-way through week 4. My placement didn't want me to return, so I felt frustrated. What I started doing was working an extra shift each week, and it's got me to where I only need to make up one day for the entirety of my management placement.

Unfortunately, even with e-learning, you may not be able to claim any actual practice hours from it. You may have to do extra hours to make up for it whilst on placement, and finish whatever is left over at the end of the course (there's a few people in this situation on my course)

Unfortunately the only way to catch up with hours is to pick up extra shifts/ do retrieval placement. I had hospital admission, blood transfusion and due to this I wasn't able to complete my placement ( I had only 6-7 more shifts to complete)so I didn't pass and I had to complete retrieval placement on the end of the summer when everyone else was enjoying time off
