DofE Boots - Reccomendations please!

I wore a pair of normal walking boots in my DofE Gold practice, and for some reason by the middle of Day 2 my ankles were bruised so much that every step hurt. Every time the boot ankle touched my leg it hurt so much, so I seriously need some new boots for the final expedition, but I have no clue what boots will give me ankle support, while simaultaneously not destroying my ankles.... Any advice? A boot reccomendation would be a lifesaver!

Hi, I’ve been on Dofe, and i found it was most useful to half a size up on the boots and then wear thick walking socks.

Wear blister plasters before walking to avoid blisters in the first place. You can also use ‘blister prevention’ or ‘anti-chafe’ cream to stop your ankle getting blistered by the shoe.

If you go on the Dofe site they will have some recommended hiking boots and socks. I used Trespass walking socks, and my boots I brought from Costwolds Outdoors

Thanks! Blisters weren't actually a problem for me, it was mainly actual brusing and swelling on the ankle, however this advice sounds solid 👍

If you wear maybe ankle support, or thick walking socks (must be breathable and make sure you aren’t allergic to the material) swelling should not be as much of a problem.

I found when looking for boots for my Silver that the most comfortable and supportive (and recommended by the leaders) have additional hooks for the laces at the top of the boot. It allows you to tighten the boot more right by your ankle to keep it stable.
Thick anti-blister socks also helps to pad any gap between your ankle and boot that gives extra support.
If you struggle with foot or ankle pain regularly outside of DofE it may be worth looking into supports or support socks. And take lots of ibuprofen and paracetamol!
