Second Degree Funding Courses

I was wondering if anyone could help as I keep seeing conflicting information. I’m looking to go back to uni and retrain but am unsure which courses are eligible for student finance.

I went to uni years back but had to drop out due to health reasons and as such would need to reapply for a second degree (unable to continue the original degree.)

What subjects as a general rule are eligible for the basic student finance loan? I understand it may differ by university and specific course code.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Thank you. What is the course you're looking to study and how many years of previous study do you have? Thanks, Jason

Thanks. Some healthcare courses are exempt from previous study rules (as long as you're not registered in the field already). So if you do have any courses in mind then do let us know and we can advise eligibility. Thanks, Jason

Thank you for replying! I was looking at either Forensic Sciences or Radiography.
Many thanks!

Hi Ellekiraline,

Radiography is an Allied Health Professional course which is an exception to previous study and equal level qualification rules, as long as you are not registered in that field, you would be eligible for a support for a course that attracts SFE funding. The forensic science course is not an exception to previous study and equal level qualification rules.

Thanks, Clare

Hi Clare!

Thanks for getting back to me, how about Operating Department Practice?

Many thanks

Hi Ellekiraline,

Operating Department Practice is not a course that comes under Allied Health Professional courses that are an exceptions to previous study and equal level qualification rules, therefore previous study rules will apply.

Thanks, Clare
