Changing to Part time

I'm just finishing my 1st year & thinking about changing to Part time for final 2 years to make 4 years, so length of course will be 5 years in total, i also did a Foundation year so 6 will be the total. Will i be able to get the maintenance loan for the additional 2 years over the standard 4 years?

Hi there, If you're changing to a part time course you'd need to make a new application as a part time student. what university are you studying at? Thanks, Jason

Thanks. Are you going to be 'in attendance' for those 2 years and treated as an 'internal' student or will you be treated as an 'external' student by the university? Thanks, Jason

Hi Jason - I will still be at the university for the additional 2 years, it won't be remote learning.

Thanks. Are the university not requesting fees for the full 4 years you have left? You'll receive the maintenance loan but the university can advise us of the change of modules so your funding can be reassessed and updated. Thanks, Jason

reason for this change is that i'm an international athlete & extending the length of my course will give me the best chance to excel in my course & my sport.

yes i assume they will then request for 4 years of part time fees? but my concern for me is that i still receive maintennace loan for the 4 years because i have already had 2 years of this...

Yes, you'd still receive the maintenance loan if you're still in study and not an 'external' student. Thanks, Jason

Thats great, thanks for clarifying Jason as i thought maintenance loan was only for 4 years.

The maintenance loan is not affected by your previous study if you don't hold a qualification. It's only the tuition fees. Thanks, Jason

I'd advise speaking to the university regarding the fees. We pay all years of a course + 1 extra year then minus any previous study. Depending on how they are looking to change your study (if it stays part time but at a full time level), they may only request the fees for two of the years but they'll be able to advise. Thanks, Jason
