Becoming estranged beginning of 3rd year!?

I have contact with both parents, but it’s limited with mom and I don’t want contact with my dad. I want to be estranged from my dad and mom’s refusing to give me financial support, saying I should stay with dad. I’ve applied for 3rd year already as I’m not sure what my eligibility for be estranged is. I need accommodation by 23 August 2024. What can I do/what money can I get?

I’ve looked that up already. I don’t know if I’ll be considered estranged and need financial support to move before September.

Hi there,

Normally, to be classed as estranged you need to have no contact with both of your parents.

So, at the moment you don't speak to your Dad, but you have some contact with your Mum?

Did your Mum explain why she doesn't want to support your application?

Yes that’s right. Mom thinks I’m not financially responsible and in the past I’ve asked her for some money and gave it back. I’ve been looking for but don’t currently work, so I’m struggling and don’t how to get emergency money for somewhere to stay to pay for the 1st 3 months of somewhere I’ve found.

Also, there’s no room in mom’s current house and dad’s house is unsuitable.

Thanks - you can certainly apply as estranged in this case, there's no harm in trying.

Hi there,

From the link previously provided you will be able to find the estrangement form. You will need to complete your part of the form and get a 3rd party of good standing in the community to also complete the form. This can then be uploaded from your online account.
