deferred entry into medicine

I am thinking i would like to do a gap year before an undergraduate medicine course but would also like to apply whilst in 6th form and not during my gap year. has anyone had any experience with deferred entry, is it common for Russell group uni’s to grant this or should i just apply during my gap year?

I think it depends with the uni, I do know that liverpool does deferred as well as St George's. I think your best bet is researching the Russel group unis and finding out on their websites and perhaps sending the admissions team an email to confirm?

Hi. With medicine it is really not worth focussing on Russel group universities, or a specific med school at all at this stage. The most important thing is to continue pressing with academics and prep for your UCAT. Give yourself plenty of time to revise but do it earlier not later in the test period.

Once you have your score enter your info in the “which med school” Uber thread in the format requested and somebody will be along to assist with strategic choices. One you have that list read through their application policy to see what it says about deferred entry. Then apply.

Apply in this year and then if not successful in gaining a deferred entry (many many people take 2 goes) then reapply in your gap year. But absolutely apply for deferred this year. If you get a place it will give you so much more time to yourself in you gap year. Good luck.
