kings college school wimbledon sixth forms

I’m currently in Y10 doing my summer exams. long backstory so skip to the end js pls dont skip me.

I’m aiming for

Maths: 9
Biology: 9
Chemistry: 9
Physics: 9
French: 9
Music: 9
Geography: 8
Englishes: 8
Computing: sacrifice

My school is very selective/competitive but i hate it and i’m trying to move to KCS for sixth form.

I read the application process and they said I need to upload my Y10 report card. For my school, that’s basically my summer exam predicted grades but for some they boost a grade or two if you did consistently well throughout the year.

I moved to england at the start of year 10 so new school new everything so i was falling behind in a lot of schl esp given that its a very selective school but now i’ve caught up and am getting mostly 9s in topic tests.

However for computing, I changed from PE in term 1 so I was a few topics behind when I first started, I rote learned mostly and got a 9, 9, 7 for the most recent topic tests which were all theory based. But like I rote learned it and also did’t catch up on the other topics yet and I’ve constantly got exams coming so I dont really have much time to devote and catch up.

But the main problem is coding, idk ANY coding so I’ll basically just sit the exam and get minimum 2%. Everyone else in this school started in Y7 and constantly got taught it so they’re all very advanced so obviously i can’t really catch up now. I dont even have enough time to get those 9s and 8s for my other subjs.

ok anyways sorry for the very long back story but would the big fat ‘U’ on my report card make it less likely for me to get into KCS?

I have no experience there, however, l highly doubt they'll care too much as long as your not taking it for A-level and show other areas of interest. Good luck!

I got a place at kcs sixth form and I am starting in September. I think that although they consider your predicted grades, it's not the most important aspect. If you do well in the exams, interview and write interesting and passionate responses to the application questions, you can definitely get in.
I don't do computer science so i can't help you there but my friends who do say that there are lots of online resources depending on your exam board, and you can definitely catch up in a year, with the summer coming. if you are struggling, i highly recommend talking to a teacher and trying to get them to tutor/help you, or try to drop it, as i see you have 10 subjects which you don't need.
If you have any more questions, feel free to ask!

omg so lucky. i’m finishing y10 in a week and i can’t wait to get out of this schl after y11 and the only schl i can transfer to is kcs. I got straight 9s through the year but got really really bad in my summer exams (like 5s and 6s) so my grades went down so much on the report card. are you sure it doesn’t matter?? also what can i do now to increase my chances of getting in?

i'm not 100% sure so if ur able to I'd say to try to get them back up. but in general for the tests, make sure you are comfortable with doing tests under time pressure, and do loads of practice papers over the summer, which u can get from other sixth forms' past papers or just gcse "harder questions" online. i did that and it was also just useful for my GCSEs

KCS will also contact your school for an academic overview and get references from some of your teachers. As long as the Grade 5 or 6 isn’t in a core subject like English (Language) or Maths, and the rest are on the higher end of the spectrum, you should be fine.

if i do well in my gcses on thursday, do you think i can rock up and get a place?

whats KCS strengths? are the teachers good for humanities?

hey! i was a kcs student last year and i'm happy to answer any questions 🙂 all offers made are unconditional, so unless you absolutely fail all your gcses it doesn't really matter how you do but most people get 7's or above in all their gcses, the personal statement and interview are essential because they are looking for well rounded people (academic + a nice person haha), but id recommend touring the school (check the website for 16+ open days soon) and talking to teachers / current students because theyll be super helpful 🙂 also applications are done the year before (so current y11s will be applying for sept 2025), but i know one girl who ended up getting a place on the first day due to special circumstances

they changed the english paper from when i sat it (2023 for 2024 entry) but you will likely get an open ended, argumentative essay question. It's not a gcse style analyse the poetry question. General paper, just get good at percentages and some basic critical thinking skills. good luck, any questions just shoot.

hii , I got offered a place for 2025 entry into kings , for English we were given choice of four pieces , two narratives and two descriptive , we had to choose one out of those and write it for example one description was describe a celebration that you have experienced etc , their mainly quite simple , hope that helps 💞

Hi how is KCS for humanities? I was looking at their A* grades and the percent of A* in English is much lower than even schools like Highgate and UCS: just wondering if I should take up the offer since I want to do only humanities (not STEM) and probably English in Uni

Doing english a level rn at KCS. It is hard, quite hard. I am having trouble keeping up to A* standard even though I was predicted A*. I personally find coursework the most difficult, which is 20% of the a level final grade. KCS stem is comparatively stronger. Consider KCS carefully if you are looking to do English, although the school is terrific in all other regards.

Hi I’m wishing to apply for kings next year. Can I ask how you prepared for the whole application progress( like including writing personal statement, entrance exams and the interview)? Any website or books or strategies recommended? Thank you so much!
