When designing the product, was it an original design? For example: I am really interested in making a chess/checkers set for the educational toys and games but that has already been made and I feel like it would be a copy and paste situation.
I understand that I don't have to have a final idea until much later if I have to, but this would help me massively as it depends a lot on the available design options.

Start a mindmap with the theme in the middle
Then all around it right down further ideas you have even if they seem silly
Then experiment with which ideas can link to others and which can be further broken down or expanded upon
I would recommend comparing yours with a classmate and seeing what you can learn from each other
