It's such a personal choice. My daughter was in catered for her first year, with a shared bathroom, which was good as no cleaning to do, so messy kitchens to deal with, a nice gentle way into uni life, one less stress to think about. The catering seems to be hit and miss depending on the halls, but she was in Lenton and Wortley and had no complaints about the food. Its a pretty chill hall and also social. Probably in the middle, not quiet but also not as noisy as others. Nice to be on the university park campus too, when the sun has been out lots of open space to sit and chill in. Would depend on where your lectures are though of you want to be on university park campus.
Cannot comment on self catering, but it's really depends on which you think you'll like.

Hello!
Choosing your accommodation is a very personal choice.

In catered accommodation you will mix with lots of people in your halls at breakfast and dinner, and will make friends as you go and grab lunch at a range of cafes on campus. However there are set eating times (7-9am and then 5-7pm when I was there a few years ago) so if this doesn’t fit into your eating schedule that might be something to think about. At catered halls you also have to move your things out of your room at Christmas and Easter, while in non-catered this isn’t an issue, also the tenancy lengths are shorter in catered accommodation

However, in non-catered accommodation there is less opportunity to cross paths with people if your eating time is different to them, also they are all off campus at UoN. You’ll also have to plan your meals and go shopping for your food, which if you’ve got a busy schedule with your course might be tricky.

So it really is a personal choice that suits you best in terms of costs, moving things out, and time saved.

Hope this helps:smile:
