Introducing Myself

Hello there, I probably should have done this before, but it’s kind of difficult when it comes to how to introduce oneself.

My name is Michael.

I am not an overachiever, nor am I extremely gifted, unlike a lot of people on this website. I have pretty decent GCSEs, my A-level predicted grades aren’t all A*s, and my AS exams were a disaster.

At the moment, I’m studying Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics (all OCR). Physics (hopefully) will soon be changed out for an essay based subject, however I’m not currently sure what that will be just yet. My dream is to study Chemistry at undergrad and postgrad, and achieve some level of personal success.

Physics I intend to come back to at uni, as my teacher isn’t exactly the best, I didn’t apply myself as much as I should have this year, and we can’t resit our AS exams at my college. It’s extraordinarily interesting, but not currently my priority.

Hobbies? Blimey, that’s a hard one. It’s not exactly structured, but I like listening to music, trying and failing miserably to learn how to play instruments, documentaries, video games, and walking. A good walk is good for anyone. Ugh, that felt silly to say. It varies, but I can find almost anything interesting or fun!

I would consider myself a pretty nice guy, and happy to talk to anyone, whether that’s about current affairs, science, or just rambling about any trivia one finds interesting. Feel free to ask anything, or say hi. It’s actually pretty lonely around here at the moment.
Apologies in advance if this sounds rather self-centred.

Hi there! Its nice to meet you Michael. You sound like a lovely person.

Hey! Don't worry about being too much of an over achiever - this site can be quite overwhelming with the abnormal amount of people who should be getting As so make sure you don't compare too much! If you want to join into the community even more, I would recommend making a GYG, joining in with other peoples GYGs or just answering more questions on general forums. But welcome! <3

Hey! I’m glad you mustered up the courage to introduce yourself! You sound pretty cool, possibly because I also want to study chemistry at uni 👀

as a sort of ‘ice breaker’ what genre of music do you listen to

Feel free to pm if you want to talk more!

Hey there! Thanks for the advice, I really appreciate it! And it is rather astounding how so many people are doing so well, and it is fantastic to see! But success in my opinion is down to the individual. One’s personal satisfaction is more important than simply getting A*s all around! There are options for all of us at this age, and we can go far even if we don’t do as well as other people in our exams.

Exactly! And it's important to remember that when in this site ngl. Anyway - do you enjoy your A-levels because they are close to what I'm planning on doing next year and I don't really know people who are doing it.

Hello there! A fellow chemistry enthusiast, I have been looking for soooo long! Good to meet ya! In terms of music, I have a wiiiiide scope. Anything that sounds good is something I’ll listen to! But in terms of favourites, I listen to a lot of Queen, Fleetwood Mac, Jean-Michel Jarre as well as a lot of 70s-00s music. Call me basic, but it’s awesome!

I’ll be sure to message when I can, if that’s okay ^^

100%, and resilience is key. Support is always available, and as I said, there are always options for people our age.

But in terms of my own personal enjoyment when it comes to A-levels, so far it’s been kind of stressful. I made the mistake of messing about too much this first year, which I won’t be doing again. It is enjoyable, as long as you have a passion for the subjects you choose.

Because, in that case, when you feel you’re not doing so well, the passion that you have for these subjects will push you to do as well as you can. My advice, if you’re struggling, do your best to ask for as much help as you can. That support can go so far!

Haha, yeah, slightly unconventional in all honesty, but I can appreciate a lot of music! It might sound weird, but it’s a very beautiful thing that the world very much needs!

Not weird at all! Music is a powerful art that wields enormous power over us!

I agree! Especially these days, it has such a significant impact on all of us. And it’s fantastic! Whether old or new, it often provides us with a background soundtrack as we go about our lives. Helps us to progress our own individual stories.

I live for that way of thinking about it! I absolutely agree
