Hi
@NotNamedKeith Both degrees can support you in pursuing a career in finance. It depends on your personal preferences. I'd say our Accounting and Finance course splits the modules for Accounting and Finance 50/50, with half of our teaching dedicated to Accounting and half to Finance.
Recently programmes at Surrey have undergone some changes, including incorporating more digital skills and sustainability into our course. You can find the list of modules for BSc Accounting and Finance
here. We include modules such as
Management Information Systems,
Digital Coding and
Fintech.
One of the main advantages of completing an Accounting and Finance degree is the exam exemptions from the professional qualifications you may wish to sit if you want to become a Chartered Accountant. Our course is accredited by a whole list of professional bodies including ICAEW, ICAS, CIMA, ACCA, CIPFA and AACSB.
We're also big on placements and employability. We offer all of our undergraduate courses the opportunity to go on placement, which can be a huge career boost for you. Our award-winning Employability and Careers team are happy to support you with any questions, including support on mock interviews, CVs, Cover Letters and much more. For that reason, 95% of our graduates are in work or further education.
Our accommodation deadline for firm offer holders is 25th July 2024 and 17th August 2024 for insurance offer holders. It's worth considering that if you apply before this deadline, first years will be guaranteed accommodation. You can read more about our allocation policy
here.
In your first year, everyone will be in the same boat as you. I wouldn't base your university choices solely on your friends as there will be many more people to meet.
Ultimately the decision is up to you but I hope this was helpful. Whichever course/university you choose to go to, I wish you all the best and please feel free to let me know if you have any other questions.
All the best
Daniel
