Medication and moving away for uni- please help!

I've been to the same GP all my life, I currently take antidepressants but I'm moving a few hours away so of course I won't be able to continue picking up my prescription for my meds monthly from the same place. Does anyone have any advice on what I should do please? Of course I will register with a local GP but does this mean I need to go through the process again or can I just ring up and say I used to take antidepressants back home and get a prescription just like that? x

When you switch GPs your records always stay the same, they just get transferred. So they should be okay with prescribing your repeat prescription once your application has been accepted. But I'd ring the new GP up and just confirm their process

I would recommend that you start the process of changing GP immediately after you've got a prescription for your latest batch of medication -- that means that you won't urgently need a new prescription while the change of GP goes through.

Bear in mind, also, that in this age of electronic prescriptions it's possible for your prescription to be sent through to any pharmacy, not necessarily the one that you currently use. So if you haven't changed GP you just need to tell them which pharmacy you want to collect medication from so they can send the prescription there.

But it is a good idea to change GP to where you live, as it's going to be much easier getting to an appointment when you do need to see them face-to-face.

Will do! Thank you, I really appreciate the response
I swear you can get your prescriptions through an online pharmacy. Therefore, you may not actually need to change GP surgeries.
