Studying Medicine in the UK

HI, my name is Lola!!

I’ve been studying the IB and I’m in Year 12 in Australia, looking to get into a first class university in the UK. For those that know, I have a predicted 45 even though I just ploughed my recent chemistry mock of mocks.

My father’s ambition is for me to get into Oxford and so I’ve been looking at the entry requirements for my top 5 universities (I’m hoping to read medicine). While doing my research, most of the universities are specifying that I need HL Chem and one of Bio and Maths. Unfortunately, I’m taking HL Psych and English alongside HL Chem, and so it seems that I won’t even be able to apply for medicine at any of these universities.

A couple of questions I have .

1. How strict are these guidelines? Is it simply a hard no if I’m only doing SL Bio and Maths?

2. Will my predicted 45 IB help in this case?

3. If I do well in my UCAT, will that help at all?

Thanks in advance for any tips, tricks or advice

Very little chance, look elsewhere

A lot of universities in the UK (with exceptions of course) will not look at UCAT results / do not put much weight on this when considering applicants. Best thing would be to try and contact someone within the university and explain your situation. Your results with this may vary, however if you are not able to get into Oxford (as their entry requirements and guidelines are famously strict), there are plenty of other respected Russell Group unis with different requirements / more lenience

1) Very strict, it would be a hard no
2) No
3) No

But there are still plenty of med schools that will accept chem, physics, English (or at least there are for A levels), so you should have plenty of options, given a good UCAT
