0 motivation to study

hey,

im in yr 12 and i got mocks coming up. i havent done any full on practice papers this year unless i had to for class and needless to say, i am done for...

i chose maths because i do comp sci and want to continue it at uni (or at least at an apprenticeship level), but i am awful at a level maths. my brain never seems to work there. i also have no motivation to revise for it. i just dont know what to do

i guess this post is here to ask others what to do if they lack motivation, how do they overcome it?

These exams are super important they decide your UCAS grades so try and find the motivation but if ur mindset is wrong then your not gonna get anywhere

See this is whats wrong with your mindset. You keep trying to find ways to ignore or do bad in the exam. If you do a gap year you still have to go somewhere next year. That means you still need the predicted and then the final A Level grades. If you dont ace ur predicted u wont have good uni options

sounds like a skill issue, if u rlly wanted good grades and a bright future, you would immediately want to put the work in

im not finding ways to "ignore" it, im just saying that if i do a gap year then my predicted ucas grades from year 12 wont matter, would they?

I was you exactly a year ago. the person that didn't prepare for their mocks because they weren't in the right "mindset". You ONLY know what you are capable of.

I know it might feel like all hope is lost but trust me, that's wrong. I don't know when your mocks are, but even if you only have this day left, I urge you to prioritise high yield topics in maths and work on them. LIKE PLEASE! Your future self is currently talking **** about you. the YOU that made excuses and wasn't studying because they didn't feel like it. because you will see every one around you getting into good unis and having predicted grades that allow them to apply to the best unis in the country whereas you will be hella restricted and feel **** about yourself. You will not have the CHOICE to take a gap year but the obligation.

No one around you will believe in you if you don't believe in yourself. Stop blaming stuff on other people because you have the control over the situation. Every microdecision you take is deciding your final A Level grade second by second.
And for me, it felt particularly **** having my chem teacher explain to me why it wasn't possible to predict me any higher because she didn't believe I could achieve any higher. Revising for end of years puts you in a way better place for revisions for a level next year.

Video to help prioritise high yield topics in a level maths:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S71ShY_sSOo
this guy has several of those on his youtube channel so check out if not the right exam board.

Now log off tsr altogether, watch the youtube video, shut off your PC/phone wifi and put them in another room and get out your textbook and work till your mocks like you have fire up your butt !!!

(alternatively, watch videos on youtube to explain stuff you forgot how to do)

If this still hasn't convinced you, I believe you need to change your environment. Go to a coffee shop. You will not regret £3-£5 spent on a coffee if you get out of your end of years with decent grades.

I wasted 10 min of my precious time for german revision writing this message, I believe in you now GO DO THE hard WORK!!!!!

this isn't true at all

i don't know what op is going through but a lot of people struggle with motivation due to mental health issues. like if you're depressed you struggle to see a future for yourself. yes you want the good grades but since you don't see a greater future beyond that it's hard to actually get motivated. again i don't know if op is struggling with this but there are lots of reasons people don't put the work in
also, once it's getting late and you realise you have to cram to get good grades, some people will feel pushed to work harder but others will feel so overwhelmed that they lose all motivation

to op, it's good you have the option of a gap year as a backup but just try to do what you can. if you don't get amazing predicteds that's ok, as you said there is always the option of applying in a gap year. but there's still a chance you can get the grades you need, and the revision you do now will help you going into y13 so even if you don't get the grades you want now it'll still help longterm

fair enough, but then thats called a mental health issue and needs a therapist, not a lack of motivation.

lack of motivation is a result of mental health issues

u cant blame everything on mental health. U gotta work on it if u realy want to bring back the motivation. u gotta stop finding excuses

aren't u a ray of sunshine. i got friends who struggle with that (not me personally), but if you don't go through it, it's hard to see other people's perspective

I’m stressing about my coming mocks in yr10. Do the mocks in about to do really matter a lot?

everything matters. It's all about learning and finding your weaknesses to improve on. These mocks should show u what ur struggling on before ur GCSEs because then you have Y11 mocks and thats it. Revise well and when u get the results, work on what u struggled with. Can't be cutting corners.

I think if you dont have motivation doing maths, it might not be worth it pursuing a degree in CS, considering there will typically be math modules at uni.

I believe many unis weight maths above cs for entry requirements.
