Dissertation support

I've just finished my first year and I'm just wondering if we are to get any dissertation support next year?
Thank you.

Hi @Caitlin9801

Congratulations on finishing your first year! It’s great that you’re planning ahead for your dissertation.

YES! There is so much support that the university offers to do your dissertation. You have your own supervisor who will assist you on your dissertation through organising meeting and discussing any challenges you might face.

There is also additional support at Centre for Academic Achievment which you can book one to one with an academic advisor. Many of my friends have used this when doing there dissertation. You can have either online or face to face meetings.

Also, you can book to attend workshops and drop ins hosted by the Centre for Academic Achievement to help you with your academics.

Hope this was helpful 🙂

May I ask what course are you studying? as I know dissertation typically begins in third year rather than second year?

Dissertation prep generally begins in third year. However, you slowly start getting introduced to the concept of writing longer essays about topics. For instance, in my second year of History at QMUL, we had a module where we had to choose a question from a list of around 50 and write a 5000 word research essay on it (essentially half a dissertation).
